My Journey to Design

Educator: I was born and raised in Vietnam, where I graduated as a valedictorian in Chemistry. After that, I spent three years as a science teacher.

Teaching shaped how I think. I learned how to break down complex ideas, pay attention to small details, and understand how different people learn in different ways. It was my first experience designing for others—just not on a screen yet

Digital Navigator: After moving to the U.S., I worked as a Digital Navigator in Philadelphia, helping immigrants navigate everyday digital systems—banking, healthcare, education, and more.

I sat beside people as they struggled through forms, confusing interfaces, and unclear instructions. Many of these tools were supposed to help—but instead created frustration and barriers.

That’s when I started asking: Why are these experiences so hard to use? Who are they really designed for?

Product Designer (UX/UI Designer): Those questions led me to pursue a Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction at Drexel University. There, I learned how to turn curiosity into practice—using research, testing, and design to create experiences that are clear, inclusive, and actually work in real life. Today, I design with the same mindset I’ve carried through each step of my journey: to make things easier, more thoughtful, and more accessible for the people who use them.

“ I believe good design feels almost invisible—when everything just works, and users don’t have to think twice.

My Design Philosophy

Clarity over cleverness

Simple beats smart.
I focus on making experiences clear, intuitive, and easy to navigate before adding visual polish or creativity. If users understand it instantly, the design is doing its job

I don’t assume—I observe, test, and adjust

My ideas are just a starting point.
What matters is how they perform in the real world.

I rely on research and testing to challenge my thinking, refine decisions, and make sure what I design actually works—not just looks right

Design should work for people—and for the business

A product that users love but doesn’t create value won’t last.
I design with both sides in mind: improving usability while supporting real business outcomes like engagement, retention, and trust.

Design is changing—and I’m evolving with it

With AI and automation, design is no longer just about interfaces.
It shapes decisions, behaviors, and even what people trust.

I stay curious, keep learning, and approach this shift with intention—because how we design now has a bigger impact than ever.

Beyond Design

Volunteer

Hiking

Travel

Outside of design, I spend a lot of time observing the world—through photography, hiking, traveling, and everyday moments with people.

Whether it’s volunteering, joining a workshop, or simply sharing time over a meal, these experiences keep me curious and grounded. They remind me that every experience feels different depending on who you are and where you are—and that perspective shapes how I approach design.
